NAUGATUCK — A woman was taken to the hospital early this afternoon with series injuries after being hit by a car in the parking lot of the Freihofer’s Bakery Outlet at 1041 New Haven Road.

Police and EMS responded to the scene at about 12:17 p.m.

Naugatuck Police Department spokesman Lt. Bryan Cammarata said the victim was loading groceries into the trunk of her car when another vehicle that was backing up struck her and her car.

The victim was pinned between the two cars, Cammarata said.

The force of the collision pushed the victim’s car several feet out of the parking space.

The victim was transported to Waterbury Hospital with leg injuries, which were believed to be serious but not life-threatening, Cammarata said.

The woman driving the car that was backing up was taken to a local hospital for evaluation, he said. However, he said, she did not appear to have suffered serious or life-threatening injuries.

Members of the Naugatuck Valley Regional Accident Reconstruction Unit and borough police are investigating the accident. No further details, including the identities of the women involved, were released as of this post.
