BERLIN–Connecticut Light & Power (CL&P) and Yankee Gas reminded customers that the companies’ Winter Protection Program for 2010-2011 is scheduled to end on May 1. CL&P and Yankee Gas customers with an outstanding balance should call as soon as possible to make payment arrangements.

CL&P and Yankee Gas are willing to work with customers who are having financial difficulties. CL&P customers should call (800) 286-2828 to make payment
arrangements.

Yankee Gas customers should call (800) 438-2278. The companies will do everything they can to avoid shutting off customers for nonpayment.

“The last thing we want to do is disconnect service to a customer,” said Sharon Eberman, director of Customer Experience Operations for CL&P and Yankee Gas, in a prepared release. “May 1 is almost here. Please don’t wait. There are programs and services available. Now is the time to contact us to work out a payment schedule so that your electric or gas service won’t be shut off.”

Call 2-1-1 for information on where to apply locally for energy assistance and learn about other assistance programs to help with energy bills. The deadline to apply for energy assistance through CEAP is also May 1. Operation Fuel will open up an emergency assistance program for gas and electric customers on May 1.
