BEACON FALLS — Voters on Monday approved using $146,390 from the town’s excess fund balance to pay for 11 capital projects.

The motion was approved, 23-1, at a town meeting,

Prior to the vote the fund balance was at approximately $1.2 million, First Selectman Christopher Bielik said.

The most expensive project on the list is the purchase of a utility vehicle for Beacon Hose Company No. 1 for $36,290.  The town originally approved leasing the vehicle in the 2016-17 budget but felt it was a better idea to pay it off since it has the money, Bielik said.

The projects also include $34,000 to replace the roofs on the senior center, the bathrooms at the Pent Road Recreation Complex and the Sugar Shack at the complex. Bielik said the town is currently undergoing a capital assets review and looking at the status of all town-owned buildings. These three were identified as needing immediate work, he said.
