PROSPECT — The Region 16 school district is seeking volunteers to sit on a naming committee to develop name ideas for the new elementary school in Prospect.

The Board of Education recently approved a policy that sets forth a process for naming the new school. Under the policy, the committee will be comprised of the superintendent of schools, one principal, two teachers, and four community members — two each from Prospect and Beacon Falls.

The committee is expected to meet four to six times beginning in January. The committee will present three recommendations for names for the new school to the superintendent within 60 days of its first meeting who, in turn, will present them to the board. The board will have the final say on the school’s name.

Anyone interested in serving on the committee can contact Lorrie Moraniec at (203) 758-6671 or lmoraniec@region16ct.org on or before Dec. 10.

If more people express an interest in serving on the committee than there are allotted seats, a lottery system will be used to select those who will serve.
