PROSPECT — The Prospect Volunteer Fire Department wants residents to beware of a phone scam.

The department posted on its Facebook page that residents reported receiving phone calls asking for donations for the volunteer fire department. The post stated the calls are not legitimate, and the department doesn’t solicit donations via telephone.

In Beacon Falls, Beacon Hose Company No. 1 didn’t report any incidents of scam phone calls in town, but issued some reminders to residents on its Facebook page on how to spot a scam.

Beacon Hose never solicits donations via phone calls, the post stated. The only donation solicitation done by the company is its carnival donation request letter, which was mailed earlier this month.

The company is referred to as Beacon Hose or Beacon Hose Company No. 1, anyone referring to the company as the “Beacon Falls Fire Department” is most likely not affiliated with the company, the post stated.

Anyone with questions regarding the validity of contact made by someone claiming to be from Beacon Hose or the town’s fire department, can call 203-729-1470.
