WATERBURY — After more than a week in critical condition at Waterbury Hospital, the victim of a four-story fall from a borough apartment has died.

A hospital spokesman confirmed Saturday that Salomon Martinez, 24, of Stratford died.

Martinez suffered severe injuries after falling from the window of a fourth floor apartment at 8 Pond St., a multi-family apartment building, Jan. 16. Police received an anonymous call at 2:27 a.m. on Jan. 16 reporting someone had fallen out of a window. When police arrived they found Martinez lying on the sidewalk next to the building. He was lying under a fourth floor window that was shattered. He fractured his skull, broke both legs, bruised his heart, ruptured his bowels and had bleeding in his brain.

According to court documents, a fight involving multiple people erupted at a party in the apartment following a game of beer bong. Police have yet to determine exactly how Martinez fell from the window and whether he was pushed.

Two borough men, Matthew Chandler, 20, and Kyle Gonzalez, 20, have been charged with assault in the first degree and conspiracy at assault in the first degree in connection to what happened to Martinez.

Naugatuck police spokesman Bryan Cammarata previously said if Martinez died the two men could be facing more serious charges. Police didn’t announce any additional charges as of this post.
