NAUGATUCK — Detectives investigating a report of a suspicious person who reportedly tried to lure a girl into a car Monday night have determined that wasn’t the case, police said.

Police responded to Cold Spring Circle at about 10:30 p.m. for a complaint of a suspicious vehicle. As police investigated the complaint, officers received a report that an unknown person attempted to entice a girl into a car.

After further investigation, police said there was no intent to “abduct” or “lure” any children into the vehicle.

Police said the incident started when a 27-year-old woman who lives on Cold Spring Road, got out of the car. Police said she was intoxicated and started shouting at several of the juveniles in the immediate area, one of whom she mistakenly believed to be a family member.

Police said her behavior alarmed and concerned the children, but there was never an attempt to lure any children into the car. Police said the driver had no involvement and was giving the woman a ride home. Police issued her a ticket for creating a public disturbance.
