NAUGATUCK — A 43-year-old Oxford man died in a two-car accident Tuesday morning on Gunntown Road.

Police said Daniel Paul Lucas was driving a 1997 Honda Civic when he collided with a 2006 Jeep Liberty driven by Alexander Oneschuk, 71, of Naugatuck, at about 11:15 a.m. The accident occurred just north of Towantic Hill Road near the Oxford town line, police said.

Lucas was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

Oneschuk suffered non-life threatening injuries, police said, and was treated and released from a local hospital.

The two men were the only people in the cars.

The circumstances that led up to the crash are being investigated by the Naugatuck Valley Regional Accident Reconstruction Unit. Gunntown Road was closed until shortly after 5 p.m. while police investigated at the scene. The investigation is expected to take several weeks to complete, police said.
