NAUGATUCK — Controller Bob Butler updated the Board of Education last week on the status of two upcoming school construction projects.

Butler said the roof at Hillside Intermediate School needs to be replaced. Initially, officials said that project would cost about $715,000. The actual cost will be $680,000, he told the board.

Butler has submitted a request to the state Department of Education for a school construction reimbursement grant. If approved, the state would reimburse the borough about 75 percent of the overall cost.

“As soon as we get approvals, we’re going to go out to bid,” Butler said, adding that the project will likely happen over the summer.

A roof replacement project at Western Elementary School was estimated to cost about $565,000. The actual cost, he said, is about $628,000. That project will likely happen next summer, he said.
