NAUGATUCK — Police gave a truck driver from New Haven a citation for an accident Nov. 3 on South Main Street, where the 18-wheel tractor-trailer he was driving overturned near the entrance to Route 8 north.

The 21-year-old driver, William Vera of 252 Quinnipiac Ave., was working for Ramos Trucking in Madison, said Lt. Robert Harrison, spokesman for the Naugatuck Police Department.

The truck, carrying an unsecured load of scrap metal, was moving too fast for the sharp turn onto the Route 8 ramp, Harrison said. The scrap metal shifted, causing the trailer to turn, strike the top of the Whittemore Bridge overpass, and pull the whole truck over, Harrison said.

The accident caused minor damage to the trailer, Harrison said.

Police issued Vera infractions for traveling unreasonably fast, carrying an unsecured load and failing to renew registration, Harrison said.
