Now that the turkey has been cooked and the leftovers eaten, Naugatuck, Beacon Falls, and Prospect will kickoff the holiday season with an array of festivities.

Naugatuck

The borough’s 9th annual Holiday Kickoff will be held Monday on the Town Green from 5:30 to 8 p.m.

The evening will include hayrides, a bon fire, refreshments, and holiday music. Santa Claus will also be at the Green for children to visit with. Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer and Frosty the Snowman will make special appearances as well.

Residents are invited to bring an ornament to decorate the town’s Christmas tree.

In addition to the traditional Christmas tree, the town will also decorate a military tree dedicated to members of the military. All are welcome to hang an ornament on the military tree to honor service men and women.

There is no admission for the event, but residents are asked to bring a non-perishable food donation for the Ecumenical Food Bank.

Donations are also being sought for personal care packages for troops serving overseas.

Dolly Lengyel, owner of Personal Pampering, and the VFW Post 1946 will be collecting items throughout the holiday kickoff. Lengyel, who sends care packages to troops every year, and volunteers sent over 100 packages last year to troops from New England serving in Afghanistan.

Lengyel and the VFW are seeking donations of a variety of items including batteries, DVDs, playing cards, granola bars, candy, trail mix, eye drops, soap, toothpaste, razors, and Q-Tips. The festivities begin at 3 p.m. with the Village of Trees, which will be open until 7 p.m. downstairs in Town Hall. This year, the Democrat and Republican town committees are coming together to help pack the town’s food pantry during the event. Residents are asked to drop off a non-perishable food donation at the Village of Trees to replenish the food pantry.

The annual Holiday Light Parade, sponsored by the Volunteer Fire Department of Prospect, sets off at 5 p.m. The parade, which follows the Memorial Day parade route, will feature decorated fire trucks and residents are invited to decorate a float or their own vehicle and join the parade.
