Towns to commemorate Veterans Day

Veterans Day, the annual holiday commemorating the service of all veterans in all wars, is Monday, and Naugatuck, Beacon Falls and Prospect with each mark the day with ceremonies.

Naugatuck’s annual Veterans Day parade which will step off at 2 p.m. from Ion Bank, 87 Church St., and proceed down Church Street to the Town Green. Once the parade arrives on the Green there will be a ceremony, which will last approximately 45 minutes and feature local dignitaries and veterans. The ceremony’s keynote speaker will be Ryan Buxton, a veteran who fought in Afghanistan. American Legion’s State Commander Robert Murray will also speak.

Prospect will host a prayer and wreath-laying ceremony on the Town Green on Center Street at 11:11 a.m. 

Schaeffer-Fischer Post 25 of the American Legion in Beacon Falls will be holding a Veterans Day Ceremony at Mathies Park at 11 a.m.

Legion Commander Bruce Carlson said veterans from the Post will be speaking about the meaning of Veterans Day. There will also be a wreath presented at the flag pole.  

Carlson said in addition to the veterans, local dignitaries, local clergy, and Boy Scout Troop 104 has been invited to attend the ceremony.
