Editor’s note: After this week’s edition went to press the location of the ceremony in Beacon Falls was changed from Matthies Park to Veterans Park.

On Sunday, Beacon Falls, Naugatuck, and Prospect will mark Veterans Day with ceremonies.

In Naugatuck, the annual Veterans Day parade will step off at 2 p.m. The parade will begin at the lower end of Church Street and end at the Town Green for a ceremony. The ceremony will begin with the playing of the National Anthem by the Naugatuck High School band followed by remarks by local veteran officers and dignitaries.

The keynote speaker for the ceremony will be U.S. Army Reserve Maj. Scott Meyer, of Naugatuck, who served in the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

In Beacon Falls, Schaeffer-Fischer Post 25 of the American Legion will be holding a ceremony at 11 a.m. at Veterans Park by the Depot Street Bridge. The public is invited to attend.

In Prospect, a ceremony will be held on the Town Green at 11 a.m. The Congregational Church will adjourn its service and finish it on the Green for the ceremony. The ceremony will also include a wreath laying by officials from American Legion Post 194 and Veterans of Foreign Post Wars Post 8075.

“A small, short but meaningful ceremony,” Prospect Mayor Robert Chatfield said.
