Towns plan ceremonies for Veterans Day

Beacon Falls, Naugatcuk and Prospect will mark Veterans Day with ceremonies

The Naugatuck Veterans Council is planning a full day of observances to commemorate Veterans Day on Nov. 11.

The day is highlighted by the Veterans Day parade at 2 p.m. The parade steps off from the Ion Bank parking lot at 87 Church St. and goes to the town Green, where a ceremony will take place.

Naugatuck police Officer John Julian, a veteran of the Marine Corps and a member Army National Guard, is the grand marshal for the parade and keynote speaker for the ceremony. Julian served two combat tours in Afghanistan in 2006 and 2010 with the Army.

The schedule of observances in Naugatuck is as follows: Whittemore Bridge float lowering at 10:30 a.m.; WWI Memorial wreath laying at 10:45 a.m.; Ringing of the bells at 11 a.m.; parade at 2 p.m.

In Beacon Falls, American Legion Post 25 will hold memorial services at 11 a.m. at Matthies Park, 215 Pines Bridge Road.

Prospect will hold a ceremony at 11 a.m. on the town Green on Center Street.
