NAUGATUCK — Titanium Day, an event to raise awareness about domestic violence, is set for Saturday in Naugatuck.
Titanium Day was inspired by Naugatuck resident Becky Rutrough, who is a domestic abuse survivor and whose nickname is “Titanium.”
The event runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the Naugatuck Green on Church Street. It includes information on services for victims of domestic violence, an open mic for children, activities for children, and entertainment.
For NFL player Corey Jackson will at the event as well. Prior to Titanium Day, Jackson will speak to members of the Naugatuck High School football team.
The day will also include a Purple Man Beauty Contest. Male contestants will dress in their best purple outfit and compete for a chance to a Walter Camp Dinner Package, which includes tickets for the winner and a guest to the 2018 Annual National Awards Dinner and photo opportunities with the 2018 All-American Team and honorees. The entry fee is $25, and all the proceeds benefit Safe Haven of Greater Waterbury.
A proclamation ceremony and the Purple Man Beauty Contest will start at 12 p.m. The rain date for Titanium Day is Sunday at the same time.
