PROSPECT — A Waterbury woman who worked as a teller at the Prospect branch of Wells Fargo Bank has been arrested on a warrant, charging her with embezzling nearly $5,000 from the bank.

Michelle Harris, 23, whose last known address is 90 Wakelee Road, turned herself in to Troop I in Bethany on Aug. 10 after she learned that there was a warrant out for her arrest, Resident Trooper Matt Comeau said.

She was charged with one count of third-degree larceny and six counts of third-degree forgery. Harris was released on a $500 cash bond to be arraigned Friday at Waterbury Superior Court.

A total of $4,785 was embezzled, Comeau said. Harris allegedly altered bank deposit slips and withdrawal slips, he said.

Comeau launched an investigation after Wells Fargo Bank Corporate Security Investigations on April 12 reported alleged embezzling that took place from March 12 to March 22 with Harris at the Prospect branch at 66 Waterbury Road, he said.

Comeau, who led the investigation, applied for a warrant on July 23 and obtained it the same day, he said. He was able to reach Harris through her family, Comeau said.
