NAUGATUCK — The Naugatuck Assessor’s Office issued a remainder to residents that applications for special land classification for preservation of farm, forest, or open space can be made at the Assessor’s Office.

The filing period is open until Oct.31. The application forms and additional information are available at the Assessor’s Office or at the CAAO.com website.

If the owner’s livelihood is derived from a farming operation, the owner is entitled to a tax exemption of up to $100,000 worth of machinery plus all livestock and poultry.

An owner requesting that his land be designated as forest land must file and attach a copy of the Certified Forester’s report with the application for forest land classification.

An owner requesting that his land be designated as open space must first have received such classification from the planning commission and be approved by the legislative body of the municipality. He must then apply to the assessor within 30 days after.

No applications will be accepted after the deadline.
