Police-badgeNAUGATUCK — Borough officials were on alert last night after two plastic bottles filled with a solid substance were discovered in front of 10 Olive St.

“The two items appeared to initial responders to resemble items used to make homemade explosive devices,” according to a press release issued by the Naugatuck Police Department.

Borough police, firefighters and officials from the state police and Department of Energy and Environmental Protection investigated the report.

Following the 6:30 p.m. call reporting suspicious items found in the road a portion of the street was closed and residents in the area were asked to stay inside while officials investigated.

The state police bomb squad determined the items were not explosive or hazardous. The investigation wrapped up and the scene was cleared at about 8:15 p.m.
