BEACON FALLS — An early, Friday-morning fire at a local bakery is under investigation, after another bakery in Monroe owned by the same person also caught fire about 20 minutes earlier.

According to a state police statement, Troop I received a 911 call at 2:51 a.m. Friday about a structure fire at Beacon Falls Bakery & Deli on North Main Street. Beacon Hose Co. No. 1 reported the building was fully engulfed by flames, upon arrival. The Naugatuck Fire Department also responded to the blaze.

No one was in the building, and no injuries were reported.

Monroe police say a fire at a bakery in that town was reported at 2:30 a.m., according to WFSB. Fire departments in Beacon Falls and Monroe are working together on an arson investigation, along with state police major crime detectives and state police fire investigators.

The Monroe bakery, where most of the baking for the Beacon Falls shop is conducted, sustained minimal damage and is expected to reopen soon.

Here, however, the bakery that opened only a month ago appears gutted, some of its comely brick exterior charred by smoke that billowed out of broken windows. Both bakeries are owned by Kassie Mastro.

No arrests have been made.
