PROSPECT — State police are investigating the theft of cash donations from the Prospect Library.

According to a police report, a lone, male suspect stole a plastic jar containing cash donations from the library on the afternoon of July 28. The jar was sitting on a counter at the time of theft, the report stated.

The report didn’t state how much money was in the jar. Library Director Barbara Smith said the money was donations to the Friends of the Prospect Library to be used to buy materials for the library.

The suspect fled the scene in an older, medium-sized, tan or brown four door car, the report stated. According to police, the suspect drove off through the backyard of the library on the grass and headed north on Route 69.

The suspect was described as a white male, in his early 30s or late 20s, about 5 feet 7 inches tall, with a stocky build and short, light-colored hair. The suspect was wearing a yellow T-shirt and tan shorts at the time, police said.

Anyone with information on this case is asked to contact the Prospect State Trooper’s Office at (203) 758-6150.
