NAUGATUCK — Music students are being sought for this year’s Bob Veillette recitals at the Howard Whittemore Memorial Library on Church Street.
Separate recitals will be held Aug. 26 at 5:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Solo piano performances, duets between piano and another instrument, singing pianists and other instrumental soloists are welcome.
Veillette, a borough resident, accomplished pianist and former managing editor of the Republican-American, began the recitals to develop children’s confidence performing in front of an audience. Charley Marenghi, director of the Naugatuck Community Band, stepped in to emcee the recitals when Veillette was left with locked-in syndrome seven years ago after a stroke. Library staff and friends are also helping organize the performances.
To sign a student up for one of the recitals, call Helen Boxer at (203) 232-5735.
