NAUGATUCK — The carnival is back in the borough.

The St. Hedwig-St. Francis School carnival opens today and runs through Saturday. The carnival is open from 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday and Friday and Saturday from 1 to 9 p.m. on the St. Francis Field on Church Street.

Christina Leahy, vice president of the school’s Home School Association, said the carnival will once again feature rides, vendors and games.

This year, however, there will be a new concession stand, Leahy said. It will be run by students’ parents and sell a variety of foods, including strawberry shortcakes.

Bracelets will be sold for $25 that will allow people to go on the rides an unlimited number of times.

The association revived the carnival, which had been a tradition, last year.

“The church always used to do a fair on the field,” Leahy said. “We just wanted to bring something fun back to the community and raise money for our school.”

All of the proceeds from the carnival go to the association, which supports the school’s operating budget, Leahy said.

“It’s a lot of fun. It’s good family fun,” Leahy said. “Even if you don’t want to come ride the rides, you can come eat. There will be fried dough and strawberry shortcake.”
