BEACON FALLS — The Board of Selectmen has tabled a proposal to start up a town social media profile.

Christian Yanarella, who runs social media sites for companies, came before the board during its September meeting to discuss the possibility of developing social media channels, mainly Facebook and Twitter, for the town to use.

Under Yanarella’s proposal, the town would pay $600 a month for first two months for setting up the social media sites and $200 every subsequent month for Yanarella to manage the sites.

At the board’s October meeting, new information came to light which pushed the pages development back.

“There has been a change in Facebook’s policy in calling things by their geographical location rather than by some other name,” Selectman Chris Bielik said.

Bielik said that Yanarella’s intention was to postpone his proposal for a couple of months so Facebook could get their policies straight.

Bielik pointed out that other municipalities are currently looking into how to move forward with these changes.

“[Yanarella’s] recommendation is actually to give it a couple of months, wait for everything to settle up, and see how people are reacting to it,” Bielik said.

Bielik said that Yanarella expects to come before the board with a new proposal by the beginning of next year.

The board decided to take no further action regarding the proposal until that time.
