BEACON FALLS — The Board of Selectmen has appointed Harry Roscoe to fill a vacancy on the Planning and Zoning Commission.

The board unanimously approved the appointment Nov. 16 during a special meeting. Roscoe, 71, replaced former commission Chairman Kevin McDuffie, a Democrat who resigned Nov. 9.

Roscoe, Republican, is retired but owns a travel agency, Travel with Harry. He will complete McDuffie’s term, which runs to November 2021. Roscoe said he plans to seek reappointment to the commission after the term expires.

The nine-member commission can’t have more than five members from one political party. Roscoe’s appointment doesn’t violate that rule, according to First Selectman Gerard Smith.

The commission elected new officers at its Nov. 19 meeting. Members elected Donald Molleur as chairman. Michael Rupsis and Michael Pratt were elected vice chairman and secretary, respectively.
