NAUGATUCK — New administrators are set to step into their roles at Naugatuck High School and City Hill Middle School.

The Board of Education this month hired Kristina Wallace as the new associate principal of Naugatuck High and Andrea Fonseca as the next assistant principal at City Hill.

Wallace will start in July and earn $114,715 her first year, according to school officials. Fonseca is scheduled to start in August, and her salary will be $106,168.

Wallace, a West Hartford resident, will replace John Harris as associate principal. Harris, who was hired in May 2017, was hired as Naugatuck High’s principal in April.

Wallace has a bachelor’s degree in human development and family studies, a master’s degree in school counseling, and a 6th year degree in educational leadership all from the University of Connecticut. She has worked in education since 2009. Since 2014, she has worked as a school counselor at Windsor High School and has been the lead counselor at the school since 2017.

Harris said Wallace stood out during the interview process for several reasons, including her commitment to equity, her high expectations for all students, and her ability to build relationships with students and faculty.

“The accolades she earned both at Windsor and at the state level for her work as a school counselor are proof of these abilities, and I’m excited for her to join our administrative team as we continue to help all students realize our ‘vision of the graduate,’” Harris said.

Andrea Fonseca

Fonseca, a Stratford resident, will replace Tiffany Deitelbaum at City Hill. The school board named Deitelbaum the principal of Salem Elementary School in April.

Fonseca has a bachelor’s degree in sociology and a master’s degree in reading from Southern Connecticut State University, and a certificate of advanced studies in education leadership from Sacred Heart University.

Fonseca, who started her education career in 2003, has worked as an elementary reading consultant in the Stratford public school district since 2015.

“Andrea impressed the committee with her knowledge of effective teaching practices and her strong communication skills,” City Hill Middle School Principal Eileen Mezzo said. “Ms. Fonseca’s specific strengths are closely aligned with the goals we have set for the upcoming year. Her background and training in competency-based learning and responsive classroom will help support the CHMS faculty in our next level work. Most importantly, the committee and the faculty warmed to her charismatic and positive demeanor.”
