NAUGATUCK — Republican David Heller has been unanimously re-elected as chairman of the Board of Education.

Republicans Dorothy Neth-Kunin and Scott Slauson were unanimously elected as vice chairman and secretary respectively at the Nov. 14 meeting, which was the board’s first following the Nov. 5 election.

Heller, who was chairman the past two years, said he was pleased to be back on the board and to serve as chairman again.

“I am very pleased to be able to continue to serve the students and the parents of Naugatuck on the Board of Education. I’m thrilled to be serving again as the chairman. I look forward to continuing to work with my follow board members to continue to improve and move our district forward in terms of educational achievement and student growth and development,” Heller said.

Neth-Kunin, who was vice chairman the past two years, said it felt great to be re-elected to the board.

“It’s great that the public has a huge amount of faith in me to reelect me a second time around,” Neth-Kunin said.

Although she had expressed an interest in being chairwoman, Neth-Kunin said everything worked well during the past term and there was no reason to change anything.

“Certainly there was a desire for me to be chair this time, but based on the board’s decisions and conversations we agreed that we would leave things the status quo this time around and go forward. I’m happy with the outcome and I’m sure we’ll work together just as well going forward as we have,” Neth-Kunin said.

This is Slauson’s first term serving as secretary.
