NAUGATUCK — Naugatuck High School students will be able to earn more credits for the University of Connecticut next year.

The Board of Education voted unanimously Jan. 14 to add the UConn Coop Discrete Mathematics course to the high school’s curriculum for the 2016-17 school year.

Naugatuck High School Principal Jan Saam said students taking the course would earn three college credits at UConn in addition to the credit earned at the high school. If the student does not attend UConn the credits can be applied to another college as transfer credits, Saam said. Whether the credits would be accepted is up to each individual college.

The teacher for the course would be an employee of the high school, but be trained by UConn, Saam said.
