League of Women Voters offering scholarship 

PROSPECT — The Cheshire Wallingford League of Women Voters is offering a scholarship to women who are going back to school after taking a hiatus from their education.

Women 21 years old and older from Prospect, Cheshire and Wallingford are eligible to apply. The deadline to apply is May 15. For more information or an application, email scholarlwv@yahoo.com.

Chip Aldrich Memorial Scholarship

NAUGATUCK — Naugatuck High School is accepting applications for the Chip Aldrich Memorial Scholarship.

Aldrich, who died in 2016, was a special education teacher in the Naugatuck school district from 1990 to 2016. He was also the assistive technology consultant.

The scholarship is offered to a Naugatuck High senior with a documented learning disability who is pursuing higher education at a college, trade or technical school. This award is open to a student who has worked hard to overcome the effects of his or her disability.

Applicants are asked to submit a 250 to 500 word essay describing their academic ambitions and how this award will help achieve them, as well as a letter of recommendation from a resource teacher with whom they have worked with throughout their high school career.

Interested students should contact Linda Barbieri in the guidance office at 203-720-5404 for an application. May 1 is the deadline for applications.

Winfred B. Langhorst Memorial Scholarship

NAUGATUCK — St. Michael’s Church is offering the Winfred B. Langhorst Memorial Scholarship.

Naugatuck residents and registered members of the church are eligible to apply for the scholarship. The student must be a graduating senior from an accredited area high school or an accredited parochial or preparatory school who is planning to attend college or another post-secondary institution of higher learning.

The deadline to apply is April 27. Interested students should contact their school’s guidance department or contact St. Michael’s Church at 203-729-8249 for an application.

Nellie and Ruth Cowdell Scholarship

PROSPECT — The Prospect Historical Society is accepting applications for the Nellie and Ruth Cowdell Scholarship.

The $1,000 scholarship is given annually to a graduating high school senior from Prospect who will be attending an institute of higher learning.

Applications can be found online at www.prospecthistoricalsociety.org or at most high school guidance offices. Applications must be received by May 24.

Donald B. Wilbur Scholarship

MIDDLETOWN — Liberty Bank is seeking applications for the 2018 Donald B. Wilbur Scholarship.

The $1,000 scholarship will be presented to a graduating high school senior who is enrolling in an accredited college, university, or other institution of higher education with the goal of majoring in engineering or a technology-related field.

Applicants must be graduating from a high school in a town served by Liberty Bank. The towns served by the bank include Beacon Falls and Naugatuck.
