Scholarship dinner to recognize local students

NAUGATUCK — The Camille B. Perugini Charitable Trust will award scholarships to 10 local students during an awards dinner June 25 at Jesse Camille’s Restaurant.

The scholarship was created in 1997 in memory of, Camille B. Perugini, a 1988 Wolcott High Graduate and a 1992 graduate of Boston College, who passed away in 1997 unexpectedly from an undiagnosed medical condition. To date, the scholarship committee has awarded 124 scholarships to area high school students totaling more than $166,000.

Ten scholarships totaling $11,000 will be awarded to students at the dinner. Among the students receiving scholarships are five from Naugatuck High School — Debora DaSilva Oliveira, Kathryn Bottinick, Kaitlin Carter, Melissa Leggett, Isabella Verilli, and Timothy Woodfield. Michael Torselli of Woodland Regional High School along with Wolcott High School student Nicholas Bernier, Chase Collegiate student Nathaniel Elisa D’Amico, and Nonnewaug High School student Mary Korowotny are also receiving scholarships.

The trust is supported by fundraisers every year put on by the scholarship committee. Upcoming fundraiser include a golf tournament is lat summer at Hop Brook Golf Course and an Oktoberfest this fall.
