Route 63 in Naugatuck closed for downed wires

NAUGATUCK — A dump truck took down wires from a utility pole on Route 63 Thursday afternoon, closing the roadway.

The accident occurred on New Haven Road near the intersection of Cross Street and Cross Point Plaza, according to police.

Traffic is being detoured around the site. As of about 1 p.m., police said the detour would be in place for several more hours.

Southbound traffic from downtown Naugatuck is being detoured onto Cross Street toward Route 8 and Cotton Hollow Road. In the northbound direction from Bethany, traffic is being diverted onto Cotton Hollow Road.

Vehicles entering Route 63 north of Beacon Valley Road are being turned around near Cross Point Plaza.

Drivers are asked to avoid the area and use alternative routes.
