NAUGATUCK — A robbery shortly before noon Thursday on Rubber Avenue led to a precautionary lockdown of Western Elementary School.
According to police, a man was robbed at about 11:30 a.m. while walking near the Mobil gas station on Rubber Avenue near Naugatuck High School. Police reported the victim’s wallet, which had cash in it, was stolen. The male suspect used force to rob the victim, but did not show a weapon or mention that he had one, police reported.
The victim told police the suspect fled towards the wooded area near Western School. The school was placed on lockdown for about 45 minutes while police searched the area. Naugatuck High School was not locked down because students had already been dismissed for a scheduled half day, police said.
