PROSPECT — Region 16 Superintendent of Schools Tim James has returned to the district after being on medical leave for six weeks.

James, who lives in Torrington, said last week he is working part days. He returned during the April vacation week to acclimate after being out for six weeks, he said.

James has declined to comment on the reason for taking a medical leave, but said the illness continues to be treated.

“We are just hoping for the best,” James said.

According to a letter from Region 16 Board of Education Chairwoman Priscilla Cretella to parents, staff, the Region 16 building committee and elected officials, James was diagnosed with a “serious health condition” in January. An aggressive medical treatment plan has been developed that included surgery late February, and for recovery to take five to six weeks, she said.

The school board had hired Jacqueline Jacoby of Cromwell as an interim superintendent on a per diem basis while James was out of office.
