BEACON FALLS — Region 16 officials have told 26 Woodland Regional High School football players to quarantine for 14 days after an assistant coach tested positive for COVID-19.
Superintendent of Schools Michael Yamin said school officials learned of the positive test Friday. He said the assistant coach, who doesn’t work in a school in the region, was last at the high school Thursday. The region is comprised of Beacon Falls and Prospect.
Yamin said 26 players were in contact with him during conditioning work. Those players will have to stay home and remote learn for 14 days and get tested for COVID-19, he said.
Yamin said the assistant coach was in a back hallway of the school near the locker rooms. He said the school was cleaned over the weekend.
Yamin said football activities have been shut down for now.
The CIAC canceled the fall football season based on the Connecticut Department of Public Health’s recommendation that football is a high-risk sport for transmitting the coronavirus. Teams have been allowed to hold conditioning practices.
