PROSPECT — The Region 16 Board of Education has found its new business manager.

Last month, the board hired Pamela Mangini, 55, of Hamden to fill the position vacated when former Business Manager Hugh Potter resigned in August. Although the board approved hiring Mangini last month, the hire wasn’t officially announced until recently as the contract details were worked out. Mangini will be paid a base salary of $123,000, Superintendent of Schools Tim James said.

The board first posted the open position in June but reposted it after the first go around yielded no qualified candidates. Mangini applied to the second advertisement and was selected out of 12 candidates.

Mangini brings over 25 years of business experience to the job. Currently, she is the school business administrator for the Region 13 School District, which is the district for Durham and Middlefield.

“She brings to Region 16 regional district experience, which is very valuable to us,” James said.

James said Mangini won’t start the job until Oct. 29 due to terms of her contract with Region 13. Former Region 16 Business Manager William Stowell, who has served as interim business manager since Potter’s resignation, will continue to do so until Mangini starts.

Aside from experience working in a regional school district, James spoke highly of Mangini’s diverse background. Her resume includes working as the director of finance and administration for the town of Orange from 2006 to 2009 and serving on and chairing the Wallingford Board of Education.

James said Mangini will bring not only an understanding of school business, but an understanding of town finances and the perspective of a school board member to the job.

“It really is a complete picture,” James said. “She has a great depth of understanding.”

Mangini said a number of factors made her want to apply for the job.

She said she is excited about the building project underway in Region 16, and she believes that shows how much the community is dedicated to education. She also was impressed by the board members in the interview process.

“I am excited about the opportunity, and I think it’s a great community,” Mangini said.
