REGION 16 — The Board of Education has extended the contract of acting Superintendent of Schools Jacqueline Jacoby through the end of the month.

Jacoby, a Cromwell resident, was hired as interim superintendent in late February when Superintendent of Schools Tim James took a medical leave of absence for an undisclosed medial condition.

James returned to work part-time in the beginning of May, but is still receiving treatment for his condition. School board Chair Priscilla Cretella said the board extended Jacoby’s contract to ensure the district, which oversees schools in Beacon Falls and Prospect, has a superintendent in place through the end of the school year.

Cretella explained when James returned part-time Jacoby retained the title of acting superintendent and the two worked together.

Jacoby was superintendent for Glastonbury schools from July 1993 to July 2004, when she retired. She has served as interim superintendent for Hartford, Bloomfield and East Hartford public schools since her retirement and is currently a senior search consultant with the Connecticut Boards of Education (CABE). She serves the district on a part-time basis is being paid about $600 each day she works for the region.
