NAUGATUCK — Republican Rosa Rebimbas received the unanimous support of the Naugatuck Republican Town Committee for a run at a third term in the state House of Representatives’ 70th District.

“Once again I am deeply honored to be nominated to run for state representative, and I want to thank the people of Naugatuck for giving me their support and putting their trust in me to represent their voices in Hartford,” Rebimbas said.

Rebimbas was first elected to represent the 70th District, which covers Naugatuck, in a 2009 special election. She currently is the House ranking member of the General Law Committee and is a member of Public Safety and Security Committee and the Select Committee on Children. The town committee endorsed her last week for reelection.

During her time in office, Rebimbas said she’s fought for small businesses, reducing spending, and a more efficient and effective government through a bipartisan approach.

“The relationships I have built across party lines have allowed me to negotiate and pass legislation in an effective manner,” Rebimbas said. “When I am in Hartford I do not see party lines, I see solutions to the challenges that the residents of my district are experiencing.”

Rebimbas grew up in Naugatuck and went on to graduate from Fairfield University before studying at the S.J. Quinney College of Law, at the University of Utah. After earning her law degree, Rebimbas returned to Naugatuck to practice law.

Republican Town Committee Chair Dorothy Hoff said Rebimbas works hard in Hartford and her career and still manages to give back to the community.

Rebimbas’ community involvement includes serving as a board member for the Naugatuck Economic Development Committee and the United Way of Naugatuck and Beacon Falls.

In Hartford, Hoff said Rebimbas is the type of representative who is always one to question and won’t just go along with the status quo.

As things stand now, Rebimbas’ path to a third term in office is a clear one, as borough Democrats did not nominate a candidate to run against her.

Democratic Town Committee Chair M. Leonard Caine said the committee put out feelers to see if anyone was interested in running, but no interested candidates stepped forward.

The opportunity still exists that a challenger can petition to get on the ballot and run against Rebimbas.

Rebimbas said she is looking to return to Hartford to continue to represent the residents of Naugatuck and the business owners in the state. She said her beliefs are rooted in limited government, personal responsibility, and fiscal accountability in government.

If elected to another term, Rebimbas pledged to continue to fight for common sense solutions to the fiscal mess that Connecticut continues to face, and for the state’s seniors and youth.

“We must balance the state budget and work to find real solutions to create new jobs in Connecticut,” she said. “I will also continue to work to protect our seniors and children.”
