WATERBURY — A power outage could disrupt Metro-North Railroad service for weeks.
On Wednesday, a feeder cable failed and caused a power outage that affected service between Grand Central Station and Stamford. Metro-North is using diesel locomotives to take passengers through the area.
Gov. Dannel Malloy said at a news conference on Wednesday that disruptions to service “could be as long as three weeks or more.”
There will be no train service Thursday on the Waterbury branch of Metro-North Railroad. Buses will run on the Waterbury branch until further notice to free up a diesel train for the New Haven Line.
The service plan for Thursday will accommodate about 33 percent of regular ridership on the New Haven Line. Customers are encouraged to find other means of transportation.
Metro-North is working with Con Edison to try to establish alternative power sources to serve the New Haven Line, according to the DOT. For more information, go to www.mta.info.
