Raccoon in Prospect tests positive for rabies

PROSPECT — A raccoon that came into contact with a dog Friday in a neighborhood on the Waterbury and Cheshire side of town has tested positive for rabies.

Mayor Robert Chatfield said that people should not let their domestic animals roam. The dog that had contact with the raccoon has to be in quarantine for 45 days, he said.

“We just want people to be a little more alert for their cats and dogs and whatever animals they have,” Chatfield said.
