NAUGATUCK — On Sunday, more than 60 quilts will be donated to Homes for the Brave during the Congregational Church of Naugatuck’s 10:15 a.m. service
Homes for the Brave is a transitional housing organization for homeless veterans and is expected to open a facility for women in Bridgeport later this year. The women’s facility will be the first of its kind in the state. The organization provides several services to homeless veterans including behavioral health services, vocational training and job placement.
The Bridgeport facility is also approved for up to five children under the age of 2.
Volunteers from the church and across the state worked together to gather and donate the quilts to the facility. Joy Kiss, CEO of Homes for the Brave, and Shalini Madaras, mother of a soldier who was killed in Iraq, will be at the church to accept the quilts. Kiss and Madaras, along with veterans from a Homes for the Brave facility for men, will also share their stories during the service.
The public is invited to attend.
