Pumpkin Patch holding Scarecrow Contest

PROSPECT — St. Anthony Church is holding the second annual Scarecrow Contest during the Pumpkin Patch Festival in October.

The contest is open to all ages, individuals, families clubs, groups, schools, civic organizations and businesses. There will be three divisions in the competition: Division A is for adult individuals or groups, Division B is for youth individuals or groups and Division C is for businesses.

First prizes in divisions A and B will be a gift certificate, ribbons will be awarded to second and third place. The winner in the business division will win a plaque and bragging rights.

Scarecrows must be in good taste and family-friendly. Any entries deemed by the Pumpkin Patch Committee or church staff to be inappropriate will be refused entry or removed.

Scarecrows can not exceed 6 feet in width or 8 feet in height. They should be constructed in a durable, sturdy and weather resistant manner. If they are damaged by weather or the vagaries of nature they will be taken down.

No electricity is available or permitted for the scarecrows.

The following will not be permitted: store bought masks, glass or perishable items. No advertising signs or political statements can be attached to the display. The committee will provide a 4-foot steel pole to attach a scarecrow.

Applications for the contest and complete rules are available at the St. Anthony Parish Center during regular business hours, at the Prospect Library and online at www.stanthonyprospect.org. Applications must be returned to the parish center along with the application fee no later than Sept. 26.

Installation of the Scarecrows will take place on Oct. 4. Scarecrows will remain at the Pumpkin Patch until Oct. 26, and removed on that day.

Judging will take place on Oct. 5. Prizewinners must be present to receive their award.
