The Saint Mary’s Hospital Foundation recently awarded 10 scholarships to students and nurses from greater Waterbury enrolled in degree programs. This year’s recipients include Connor P. Chura and Amber Brown, RN, of Prospect.

Chura, a 2012 graduate of Woodland Regional High School, plans to pursue a nursing degree at Salve Regina College in Newport, R.I. He previously served as a volunteer at Saint Mary’s and completed a 40-hour internship at the hospital for his senior project. He was inspired to enter the medical field by his mother and grandmother, who are both registered nurses.

Brown has worked at Saint Mary’s since 1997 when she joined the staff of the Naugatuck Valley Surgical Center (NVSC) in Waterbury. Brown is currently a clinical nurse manager of the Endoscopy Unit at NVSC and at Saint Mary’s Hospital. She received her associate’s degree in nursing from Naugatuck Valley Community College and is currently pursuing a bachelor of science in management for registered nurses at Post University.
