PROSPECT — The town will participate in a statewide emergency preparedness exercise Saturday from 8 a.m. until 12 p.m., Mayor Robert Chatfield said.

The exercise is part of Gov. Dannel Malloy’s Emergency Preparedness and Planning Initiative. The exercise is designed to test a municipality’s planning, coordination, mass care, and communication readiness for potential disasters.

The exercise will take place at the Emergency Operations Center at the Prospect firehouse, 26 New Haven Road. Members of the town’s emergency management team, Chesprocott Health District employees, and representatives from Eversource Energy will be participating in the exercise.

The town is expected to test its Code Red alert system before the end of the week, Chatfield said. He wants residents to be aware of what is happening, but said the exercise will not affect their plans.

“This will not change your daily routine on Saturday,” Chatfield said.
