PROSPECT – Katherine “Ann” (MacFarlane) Doolan, of Prospect, passed gently to God and her family in Heaven on May 20, 2024. She was the wife of the late Thomas J. Doolan.

Ann was born in Boston, Mass., on Nov. 17, 1932, to Donald and Mary (Cameron) MacFarlane. She grew up in Roxbury, Mass., the oldest of seven children, and graduated from St. Joseph’s Academy.

Ann and Tom were married in 1955 and raised their six children in Prospect. They were married for 51 years.

Ann worked many part-time jobs while raising her family, but her career in therapeutic recreation started at Country Manor Nursing Home in Prospect. She earned her associate degree from Mattatuck Community College in 1993, and went on to become the therapeutic recreation director at Cheshire House in Waterbury.

After a brief retirement, she went back to work at Rosegarden Health & Rehab Center, where she worked for many years.

Ann dedicated much of her time to St. Anthony Church. She taught CCD class and served with the Ladies Guild and as a Eucharistic minister. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, reading, doing her daily crossword puzzle and watching her Boston Red Sox.

She loved to talk and would strike up conversations wherever she went. Nothing made her happier than being with her family, especially her grandchildren, whom she adored.

Ann leaves behind her children, Michael Doolan (Heidi) of Watertown, Robert Doolan (Pamela) of Newington, Joseph Doolan (Wendy) of Watertown, Mark Doolan (Kelly) of Virginia Beach, Va., Kathleen Titsworth (John) of Southington, Jennifer Reese (Jack) of Naugatuck; and her 14 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

She is also survived by her siblings, Joseph MacFarlane (Donna), Myrna White (Francis), and Donald MacFarlane (Bette).

She was predeceased by her husband, Thomas Doolan; sisters Shirley Nolan, Doris MacFarlane and Mary Bernice MacFarlane; brother-in-law John T. Nolan; sister-in-law Sister Joan Mary Doolan, Catherine Flood; and nephew Steven White.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Ann on Thursday, May 30, 2024 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Anthony Church, 4 Union City Road, Prospect, with interment immediately following Mass at Prospect Cemetery. All those planning to attend are kindly asked to meet directly at church. Visitation was to be on Wednesday, May 29, 2024, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Prospect Memorial/The Palmerie Family Funeral Home, 122 Waterbury Road, Prospect.
