MILFORD — A 57-year-old Prospect man was killed when the tractor-trailer he was driving on Interstate 95 crashed and barreled down an embankment Friday morning.

Police say Jean Fabre-Benoit was driving the truck, owned by Western Express, southbound near Exit 40 at about 6:30 a.m. when he drove into the right shoulder and crashed into a metal beam guardrail.

The truck then turned left back into the center lane before drifting right, across the shoulder and onto the grass, police said.

The truck went down the embankment, striking several trees, causing the tractor-trailer, which was carrying bottled water, to jackknife and partially overturn, spilling much of its load, according to police.

Fabre-Benoit suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Two lanes of Interstate 95 were shut down for most of the day.

The crash is under investigation. Anyone who witnessed it is asked to call Connecticut State Police Troop G in Bridgeport at 203-696-2500.
