WATERTOWN – Police have arrested a 33-year-old Prospect man they say was caught stealing from Shelter Logic, a local manufacturer of canopies.

Daniel Cochran, of 9 Laurel Lane, was arrested Thursday after police say they watched him load one of the company’s truck with $2,359 worth in stolen items. Police spokesman Lt. Mark Raimo said police were investigating a report of thefts from the business and had been actively monitoring the site after hours. After the store was closed on Aug. 11, police said they noticed someone inside the building. Detectives said they observed Cochran leaving to get into a truck owned by the company, and went inside to wait for him.

“As detectives looked on, Cochran backed the company’s truck to the loading dock and began removing items from the building and loading them onto the truck,” Raimo said. “Detectives moved in and without incident placed Cochran under arrest.”

Cochran was charged with third-degree burglary, first-degree criminal trespassing, third-degree criminal mischief, use of a motor vehicle without the owner’s permission and criminal attempt at third-degree larceny. He is being held on $35,000 bond for a court date on Sept. 1.
