PROSPECT — The town’s 13th Annual Pumpkin Festival is set for Saturday.

“It’s our last gathering before winter. You can help celebrate the season,” Mayor Robert Chatfield said.

The festival is from 4 to 8 p.m. on the Town Green on Center Street. Admission is free. The rain date is Sunday.

Festival goers will be able to take part in a corn maze, a hay bale maze, and have a chance to win $500 in a hay bale rolling contest. The event will also feature a haunted hayride with members of Woodland Regional High School’s football and basketball teams.

A variety of vendors will also be on hand.

Pumpkins that were decorated by Prospect Elementary School and Long River Middle School students will be set up on bleachers around the Green. Judges will award ribbons to the top three pumpkins in each grade level, Chatfield said.

A costume and vehicle parade will step off at 5:45 p.m. Anyone who wants to participate in the parade is welcome.

Anyone driving with an orange vehicle, a tractor, or a Halloween- or pumpkin-themed float that wants to participate in the parade should be on Chandler Drive by 5:15 p.m., Chatfield said. Children who wish to participate should be in the Town Hall parking lot by 5:15 p.m., he said.

Anyone taking part in the parade is not allowed to throw candy to children due to safety concerns, Chatfield said.

The parade will also feature the Mattatuck Drum Band, Windsor Fife & Drum Corps, and St. Peter’s Drum Corps.
