PROSPECT — The town will hold its annual Christmas tree bonfire next weekend.

The bonfire is Jan. 20 at 6 p.m. on the field on Center Street next to the Prospect Library, weather permitting.

Mayor Robert Chatfield said residents can drop their trees off at the field at any point before the bonfire.

The Volunteer Fire Department of Prospect will burn the trees, and residents are welcome to come by to enjoy the fire and roast some marshmallows. Chatfield said town will have marshmallows available, but people have to provide their own roasting stick.

During the bonfire, members of the fire department will demonstrate how fast a dry Christmas tree can catch fire and burn, Chatfield said.

Chatfield said last year’s event drew around 100 people, but previous events have drawn up to 500 people.

“If it is a nice warm night, there will be a lot of people there,” Chatfield said. “It’s something to do on a Saturday night.”
