PROSPECT — The Prospect Flag Fund is planning a special donor recognition display for Town Hall.

Resident Bob Hiscox, who spearheaded the fund, announced plans for a permanent display in Town Hall recognizing gold ($50) and silver star ($25) donors to the fund. The donor recognition display will be unveiled as part of the town’s Veterans Day ceremonies in November.

Hiscox initiated the project, which raised money to mount American flags on utility poles throughout downtown, earlier this year to honor current and past members of the military. More than $10,000 had been raised over the first two months of the project. In May, over 100 flags were put up with the help of Ed Brasche, owner of Ed The Treeman, who volunteered his services to mount the flags.

Hiscox expressed his thanks to the hundreds of initial individual and business donors to the fund and indicated that the project has been an overwhelming success. General maintenance has kept the flags flying thanks to the efforts of Jack Geary and Paul from Cutting Edge Signs and Shirts, according to Hiscox.

The weather has been a little rough on some of the flags, Hiscox said. But, he added, organizers of the project will make improvements for next year.

“We have had a few minor setbacks with clips and a couple of broken brackets,” Hiscox said in a prepared statement. “We have learned from our experience this year and will make improvements next year. We also hope to do some expansion of the display.”

Most of the flags and several poles will have to be replaced each year and funds will be needed to keep the project going and donations are still being accepted. Anyone who would like to be recognized on the initial donor display may still contribute through September.

“There were many who indicated that they planned on donating to the initial effort and would still like the opportunity to be recognized,” Hiscox said.

Donations can be dropped off or sent directly to Town Hall, 36 Center St., Prospect, CT 06712. Checks should be made payable to “The Prospect Flag Fund.” Anyone who wants to volunteer can call Hiscox at (203) 758-4687 or the Mayor’s Office at (203) 758-4461.
