PROSPECT — The Volunteer Fire Department of Prospect has received a Connecticut Summer Saver Award from the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection and Public Utilities Regulatory Authority.
Mayor Robert Chatfield, who is also the fire department’s day commander, said the town received an energy grant from the state about three years ago, which helped the town change all light bulbs, ballasts, other components and motion sensor light switches at the fire department, Town Hall, the Public Library and the Public Works Department.
According to the citation, the fire department earned a 2012 Bronze Award for electric reductions of 5,148 kilowatt hours, or eight percent; three kilowatts, or six percent; and 1.7 tons of carbon dioxide during the summer of 2011.
