Prospect fencer slashes her way to medals

Sandra Marchant of Prospect competed in four divisions at the fencing national championship in July in Reno, Nev. and took home a bronze medal in the Veteran’s, people over 40 years old, category.

Following the national championships, Marchant competed in the Nutmeg State Games in late July and won gold medals in the Mixed Veteran Epee Event and Women’s Epee Open.

Marchant, a stay-at-home mom of three, fences for the Farmington Valley Fencing Academy and Prospect Fencing Club, an organization she started through the Prospect Parks and Recreation Department.
